Jesus Meets His Mother | Stations of the Cross | Rending Skies
Rosy Keane is a Melbourne-based New Zealand poet, prophet and radical mystic. This spoken word piece ‘rending skies’ is a poetic proffering of Jesus seeing his Mother on his walk to crucifixion. It comprises two parts: Part 1 is Mary, Part 2 is Jesus - and the pieces mirror one another exactly in reverse, except for the lines ‘Why take my son?’ (Mary) and ‘Why take my life?’ (Jesus).
Once you have finished the piece, listen once more, and this time picture God speaking these words to you.
This video was an interlude after Station 4 of SPAM's Spring Collective 'Follow Me' Stations of the Cross event at St Paul's Auckland, Holy Week, Easter 2022. By Rosy Keane with James Bowman and Eleanor Calder. Base photos from Adobe Stock.

Waiting On Hope
Переглядів 2642 роки тому
Watch our the final video in our youth Advent series called "Waiting." This week is "Waiting On Hope," celebrating both the arrival of hope and Christ this Christmas! Advent means "coming." God's people were waiting for God to do something new in their lives; for peace, for joy, for love, and for hope. While God's people waited, Jesus came into the world. This arrival of Christ on Christmas cha...

    inoi? or karakia?

    • @stpaulsauckland
      @stpaulsauckland 2 роки тому

      Ngā mihi for your question. We've consulted on this and have been told that karakia is more appropriate given the formality of the prayers, although it’s not very fixed which word you would use. Inoi could be used too. The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand & Polynesia as a whole uses karakia more often in this type of context. Kia ora.

    We watch this every year -- our 21 and 17 year old still love it. It's a retelling of the Christmas story enacted by kids -- the Star, sheep, baby Jesus, angel Gabriel, "Jovus" and Mary, with a party at the end, glow sticks and all!

    Ngā mihi Thom & Eleanor, cool to collaborate with you on this. It’s the first time SPAM has told this part of the Christmas story, but the ‘Presentation of Jesus at the Temple’ has been expressed creatively at St P’s since 1951, as part of the northern Derbyshire Window in our Lady Chapel, by James Powell & Sons a.k.a Whitefriars Glass. You can see it here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Paul's_Church,_Auckland#/media/File%3ASt_Paul's_Auckland%2C_Derbyshire_Window%2C_1951.jpg

    Ngā mihi Eleanor. There's a detail I find interesting in Luke's account that you've edited out (to concentrate on your four points). As a slight aside, some older translations of Luke 2:7 talk about an ‘inn’, like the KJV: “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Whereas the NIV says: “and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” N.T. Wright says: “Let’s be clear about where they were lodging. Tradition has them knocking at an inn door, being told there was no room, and then being offered the stable along with the animals. But the word for ‘inn’ in the traditional translations has several meanings, and it’s likely that they were, in fact, on the ground floor of a house where people normally stayed upstairs. The ground floor would often be used for animals - hence the manger or feeding-trough, which came in handy for the baby - but there is nothing to say that there were actually animals there at the time.” But Wright points out the interesting detail is the manger. Luke mentions it three times. It’s important because the angel told the shepherds (who’d know where to look for a feeding trough) that the new born Messiah was in a manger. That’s how they knew they’d found the right baby. And that the angel was right. (And it would have reassured Mary & Joseph that their angel conversations nine months earlier were right too).

    I can relate to Esther's story so well. I remember looking up at an aircraft and thinking I'd like an overseas trip. That day my boss organised for me to go to the UK for three weeks! I got the trip for free and was at my father-in-law's 80th birthday meeting lots of family friends. God is good, so good and generous too. Thanks for this video. (Both looking well. :-) )
